9/14/08 Mr. Cooley ran the 2008 Erie Marathon on Sunday, Sept. 14th.  His goal was 3 hours and 30 minutes.  After 18 miles, he was on pace!  At mile 18, he was struck with the worst leg cramp pain he had ever experienced, and his pace went from 8:00/mile to 11:00/mile!  The loss of 3 minutes per mile over the last 8 miles added 24 minutes to his race, and he finished the race in 3 hours 55 minutes.  He finished in 101st place out of 409 runners (top 25%) and 15th out of 47 runners (top 33%) in his age class.  He was so dehydrated due to the temperature of the race of over 80 degrees and extreme humidity, that he ended up at the emergency room Sunday evening requiring 2 packages of IV fluid.
5/19/08 Mr. Cooley successfully runs his first marathon at the 2008 Cleveland Marathon in a time of 3 hours 57 minutes.  He learned many things during this race that he hopes to apply to his next marathon in September of 2008 at the Erie Marathon.  Mr. Cooley is training to run that race in a time of 3 hours and thirty minutes.
2/12/08 Mr. Cooley's goal of producing vodcasts of all daily lessons and creating a mini-lesson library are so successful that he applies to present Vodcasting 101 at the prestigious Pennsylvania Educational Technology  Expo and Conference (called the Pete & C).  His application is accepted, he receives high marks from his peers for this presentation that can be viewed at Tech Conference Center.  
11/25/07 The students of the Castle house participated in the 4th Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.  The students and families brought in 29 turkeys and over 650 pounds of food.  The Westmoreland County Food Bank was truly thankful to help families provide a nice Thanksgiving dinner.
8/28/07 Mr. Cooley received a free gift of 32 handheld Classroom Participation System (CPS) devices from eInstruction valued at around $2,600.  eInstruction generously provided the handheld devices after Mr. Cooley emailed the president of the company, Dr. Ward, and explained why he felt he needed the CPS hardware in his classroom.  Mr. Cooley and his students are excited to use this technology to assess the students abilities or interests with activities from polling the students on if they liked an activity to testing the students on various concepts allowing the handheld devices to record and grade the student's answers to the exam and place the graded information into an electronic grade book.
8/26/07 After four wonderful years as a member of the 7th grade T-Rex house, Mr. Cooley moves to the 7th grade Castle house which provides him with a much larger room to employ all his technology gadgets.  He will miss his T-Rex partners, but the ladies teachers of the Castle house will make him feel at home in no time.
7/19/07 Mr. Cooley returns from the Keystone summit with new tools and tricks that will amaze his students.  He hopes to create vodcasts (video podcasts) within the first few weeks of school, and for the first time, students will make vodcasts as well!  In addition, Mr. Cooley hopes his students who are absent will be able to call into Mr. Cooley's room and view the current lesson from the computer monitor at home.  
5/4/07 Mr. Cooley is awarded the state level award for the Keystones: Technology Integrator.  Mr. Cooley is one of one-hundred state-award winning teachers out of the 800+ teachers that were nominated for Keystones that will now attend the Keystone Summit from July 15-19 to learn the latest technology trends of the classroom.  He hopes to use these techniques to find a new challenge for him next school year, such as using Streaming Video to create a visual component to his audio podcasts.
3/26/07 Mr. Cooley's presentation of "Spec-tech-ular Interactive Mathematics" receives high marks.  This presentation that can be viewed at Tech Conference Center.    Many participants rate the presentation as one of the best of the day.  A few days after the conference, a prominent member of the Pittsburgh Technology Council contacted Franklin Regional administration and spoke well of Mr. Cooley & his presentation and Franklin Regional School District.
2/28/07 Dr. D'Arcangelo recognizes Mr. Cooley as one of the 2 Keystone: Technology Integrators of the district.  This award allowed Mr. Cooley to submit a portfolio to the state of his technological infused teaching techniques and gadgets he uses to help his students mathematical proficient. 
2/15/07 The Teachers Teaching Teachers Conference accepts Mr. Cooley's bid to present his technology presentation entitled, "Spec-tech-ular Interactive Mathematics". The presentation will highlight podcasting, interactive whiteboards, and interactive hand-held devices.
1/17/07 Mr. Kelly, FRMS principal, nominates Mr. Cooley to present at the 2007 Teachers Teaching Teachers Conference;  this conference showcases many of the technology-infused classroom practices conducted round the city of Pittsburgh 
1/12/07 Mr. Kelly, FRMS principal, nominates Mr. Cooley as a Pennsylvania Keystone: Technology Integrator.  This award is given to teachers who incorporate technology into the classroom instruction to enhance students' mastery of the concepts 
11/24/06 The students of the T-Rex house participated in the T-Rex 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.  The students and families brought in 24 turkeys and over 750 pounds of food.  The Westmoreland County Food Bank was truly thankful to help families provide a nice Thanksgiving dinner
11/15/06 Mr. Cooley creates his first podcast for his students and their parents to review to help heighten their mathematics abilities
11/08/06 Mr. Cooley attends the Three Rivers Technology Conference and learns the skills necessary to podcast his classroom lectures
1/21/06 Westmoreland Co. Food Bank published our totals of the 2nd annual T-Rex Thanksgiving Food Drive
11/22/05 The students of the T-Rex house participated in the T-Rex 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.  The students and families brought in 19 turkeys and over 910 pounds of food.  The Westmoreland County Food Bank was amazed at the quantity of food!!!  Great job!!
9/16/05 The students of the T-Rex House participated a contest to raise the most money and goods for the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.  
1/20/05 Westmoreland Co. Food Bank published an article about the T-Rex Thanksgiving Food Drive
11/20/04 Mr. Cooley was nominated by his T-Rex House members for Carnegie Science Center's (CSS) Teacher Excellence Awards in the area of technology.  
11/20/04 The 1st Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive raised 14 turkeys and over 300 cans and boxes of food!  (Check out the pictures)
9/1/04 Mr. Cooley received a $2,000 grant for improved technology in his classroom. (Check out the letters of congrats from Sen. Rick Santorum & Gov. Ed Rendell)
